For the big boys like me, food is not just a neccesity, it is our life. We can tell you where the biggest portions can be found as far as restaurants go (Zippy's is at the bottom of that list), where the best tasting food is (like Popeye's is WAAAY better than KFC, hands down), where te cheapest food can be found (for those of us who ate all our money and are STILL hungry).
The list just goes on and on.
Yet there's more to food than just what we eat at home. Cultures all over the globe have teir own delicacies that they so proudly brag about. Take for example, the Hawaiian culture. Growing up here in Hawai'i, I have been accustomed to eating food no sane person growning up in the mainland U.S. would dare touch. To us, fresh raw tuna (called ahi here), not to be mistaken with the tuna that comes out of a metal can, with soy sauce, sesame oil and green onions is the best thing since sliced bread.
Another culture that eat food most other people will can strange is the Tongan culture. Being born half Hawaiian, half Tongan, I have had the pleasure of sampling both sides of my heritage. I became accustomed to foods that basically stick to your ribs, but are oh so good (at least for me). Things like whole taro, tapioca, cooked banana, lu pulu (a dish made with beef, spinach leaves and coconut milk) and, my personal favorite, fish stuffed with Tongan stuffing (imitation crab, Portuguese sausage and a few other things).
However, these are not the only cultures out there. There are Chinese (a personal favorite), Japanese, Thai, Russian as well as countless others. So expand your horizons and take your taste buds on a little journey of the senses. Sample the different cultures, see what tastes they are accustomed to.
Choose a culture and tuck in!!
